JEFFERSON COUNTY - 31-year-old Joseph Davis and 57-year-old Matthew Held of Hillsboro, Mo. died after a two-vehicle car crash on Old Highway M east of Lemay Ferry Road in Jefferson County at approximately 1:10 a.m. Saturday.

Held was a passenger in the vehicle Davis was driving as he tried to turn into a private drive traveling eastbound. According to a crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a vehicle travelling westbound on Old Highway M struck the left rear of Davis's vehicle.

Rescue workers transported Davis, Held and a second passenger to St. Anthony's Medical Center via ambulance. A doctor later pronounced the two dead, and neither were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. The second passenger suffered moderate injuries.

A second crash Saturday in Benton County resulted in death when Brentt Shoemaker's vehicle was attempting to drive from a private driveway across Route C to Bell Avenue. Passenger Betty Collins, 67 of Warsaw, Mo. was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. According to a crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a tractor, driven by Benjamin Tatum failed to yield when crossing Route C, and a second vehicle struck Shoemaker's car at approximately 3:42 p.m.

Shoemaker's vehicle continued westbound after impact, travelled off the roadway and came to rest in a ditch. The highway patrol said in the report it is still investigating this incident, and Collins was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
