Event informs people of their Medicare Part D enrollment options
FULTON- As the open enrollment period approaches, Fulton residents were able to learn about their options to make the best decision possible for their situation at an event Tuesday.
The event informed people of their options and what they have to take care of before the deadline and explained people's options during the open enrollment period, which runs from October 15 to December 7.
Americorps Project Manager Jim Day said Medicare Part D deals with prescription medications.
"If you miss this opportunity, you may not have another opportunity to enroll for 2015, and then you're paying for your medications out of your pocket, or paying more than you should be, because you didn't change," Day said.
Those in charge of the event said people make better decisions when they know the facts, and end up saving money most of the time. The event also helped those who are not enrolled in any programs.
"For beneficiaries who are not receiving any kind of assistance, this is their time to make that decision and get enrolled so that they don't miss out on their, on the best benefits possible for next year," Day said.
He said the event would also allow those in attendance to compare plans and see which one best fits each person's situation, which they can do during the open enrollment period.
"They will be able to compare the plan they had for 2014 with the plans available for them for 2015," he said. "Things change. Premiums change, deductibles change."
