Ex-couple to be sentenced for arson that killed teen son
ST. LOUIS (AP) - A former Missouri couple who authorities said schemed to defraud insurers out of hundreds of thousands of dollars was to be sentenced Monday for their role in a 2001 blaze that killed their teenage son.
Steven Kemper and Sandra Kay Bryant were scheduled to appear in federal court in St. Louis.
Both pleaded guilty to one felony count of aiding and abetting the use of fire to commit mail fraud.
Investigators said the fire at the family's home in the St. Louis suburb of Florissant killed 15-year-old Zachariah Kemper after he became trapped in the basement he shared with his mother. All of the adults escaped unharmed.
