COLUMBIA - Several weeks after 40-year old Rickie Dunn was shot and killed on Thanksgiving weekend, his family is still trying to figure out what happened.

"I wish I could tell you that," Rickie's sister Pamela Dunn-Williams said. "If I knew that, I wish I could tell you that, but I don't  know. No one has communicated with us. We have no idea what happened from A to B to D to C, nobody knows."

Family members describe Dunn as a loving father who would always go out of his way to help others.

"Rickie was a warm hearted, kind hearted person that would do anything for anybody," James E. Dunn Sr. said.

"Rickie is a loving father, a special brother, I mean, he would be a brother that anyone would love to have," Dunn-Williams said.

For these reasons, family members said they were devastated when they heard the news of Rickie's death.

"That morning when I found out was very devastating to me. It was like half of me had died that morning," Dunn-Williams said.

According to family members, Rickie was well-known in the community, which is why they are so surprised that no one has provided any information.

"What I'm saying to the public is, Ricky was your brother, your friend and all of that. Why not speak out? Why not say something? Why let his death go in vain?"  Dunn Sr. said.

Beyond the lack of noise from the community, the family is also surprised by the lack of communication from the police.

"We really don't have the slightest idea whether they've put the case aside and nothing has transpired, and as a father and a mother, we at least just want to hear something from law enforcements," Dunn Sr. said.

When KOMU 8 contacted law enforcement officials, they said they could not release any information to the public or the family because it is still an ongoing investigation.

Family members still have yet to give up and just want to hear some sort of news.

"You never know when it could be you next, you don't know if it could be a family member or a friend. All we're asking to do is just to take the time to help us," Dunn-Williams said.

If you have any information regarding the case, contact Crime Stoppers at 573-875-8477.
