FARMINGTON - The family of a 32-year-old Farmington fugitive killed in a police shootout is planning a memorial service Wednesday to mark the one-year anniversary of his death. An autopsy report shows that Callion Lance Hamlin was shot six times from behind on Feb. 20, 2012, in an encounter with Farmington police, St. Francois County sheriff's deputies and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Hamblin was being pursued by two bail bondsmen after skipping a court date in a drug case. He had previously spent several years in prison for drug and assault convictions.
Rally organizers say police overreacted while trying to apprehend Hamblin. A law enforcement investigation found no fault. The rally begins at 4:30 p.m. outside the county courthouse in Farmington.
