Federal Water Quality Standards Not Up to Par
MISSOURI - Missouri has more miles of rivers and streams than any other state in the country and the Missouri Coalition for the Environment is taking the federal government to court over the safety of the Show-Me State's waters.
The Missouri Coalition for the Environment is suing the Environmental protection agency, claiming it has failed to enforce federal water quality standards for almost 40 years on more than 80 percent of the state's waters. Caroline Ishida, an attorney with M-C-E says a large percentage of Missouri's waters have not been properly protected for activities like swimming and fishing... And she says that puts people and wildlife at risk.
An E-P-A spokesperson says they've been working with the state and M-C-E to address the issues raised in the lawsuit.
