Feds bust Columbia man on drug charges
COLUMBIA - Federal agents arrested a man on several drug-related charges Tuesday in Columbia.
Authorities arrested Malcolm Desean Redmon as they executed a search warrant at 61 Sunshine Drive at 6 a.m. He was arrested by ATF, along with IRS-Criminal Investigation, Boone County Sheriff's Department and the Columbia Police Department.
A previously unsealed indictment Tuesday was released which said Redmon, 31, is charged with intent to distribute cocaine, using a phone to facilitate drug trafficking and conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute cocaine.
A federal grand jury indicted Redmon on July 30. Redmon was expected to appear in federal court.
Redmon is currently awaiting trial later this month in an assault case. He is accused of assaulting a male victim near the intersection of Walnut and 8th Street in Columbia prior to a 2012 shooting outside the former Boone Tavern where Bleu Restaurant now sits.
Redmond has previously pleaded guilty to resisting arrest, possession, distributing and manufacturing of a controlled substance, stealing, drug trafficking, and trespassing.
