Emotions ran high as Ferguson testified he had nothing to do with Heitholt's murder.
"They told me that I was being arrested for homicide...I knew I had never really hurt anyone so I wasn't too worried about it."
Ryan Ferguson says he had no idea why he was picked up by police.
"I had tests take the next day so I was really worried about taking those."
He never took those tests and spent the last year and a half in jail. The whole case revolves around the night of October 1, 2001.
"I've been in jail because of that night."
Chuck Erickson, a former friend of Ferguson, says they killed Heitholt together at about 2:00 a.m. But Ferguson says Erickson made it all up.
"He asked me if he had done anything involved in this crime of Mr. Hietholt and I told him no he hadn't," said Furguson. "He was like are you sure I think I did something to this man. I was like I don't know. Not with me. I can't tell you anything about it. 'Sounds pretty weird."
The prosecution grilled Ferguson, but he says he only knew about the murder through the news.
"Read, TV, I don't know how I heard about it."
Friday the defense plans to call it's last witness, a psychiatrist who specializes in repressed memories. The trial resumes at 8:30 in the morning on Friday.
