Fire Hydrant Testing Begins Friday
COLUMBIA - The Columbia Fire Department starts its annual fire hydrant tests Friday. The firefighters will begin testing fire hydrants in Columbia to ensure hydrants are working properly. The testing is to ensure the city's hydrants have the right amount of water and pressure for firefighting purposes.
Columbia residents may notice some changes during the testing. When a hydrant is flushed nearby it could cause reduced water pressure. Sediment could be stirred up in pipes causing a temporary discoloring of water.
Officials say not to do laundry if you notice discoloring of water. They also say the water should return back to normal after letting it run a few minutes.
The testing is a program between the Fire Department and Columbia Water and Light.
If you experience any prolonged issues you can reach the Columbia Water and Light after hours at 874-6229 or 875-2555.
