Firefighters "Fill-the-Boot" Campaign Kicks Off
COLUMBIA - Columbia firefighters "Fill-the-Boot" campaign started Friday.
This years campaign marks the 59th year that firefighters have been raising money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Columbia firefighter Steve Forrest said the MDA is one of the top charitable organizations that firefighters help support.
"We do this every year. Normally, we do it on Labor Day. This year they switched it to spring time because the Labor Day Telethon is pre-taped and they like to have all the numbers correct before they pre-tape the show" said Forrest.
Although there is no goal, Columbia firefighters typically raise between $5,000 and $10,000 in donations annually, and hope to do the same this year.
Firefighters will be at various Wal-mart Supercenters, Hy-Vee, and Schnucks throughout the weekend.
