First Chance for Safe Cribs
"It's not an easy decision, but I chose for the care of my child more than the money in my household," said Mataya's mother, Alex Fidler. "So, if it wasn't for the Cribs program, I don't know where my daughter would have slept. Sometimes, when you're a single parent, you have to decide between the best care for your child and money coming into the household."
First Chance's Cribs program tries to give a safe crib to each family in need. Gov. Blunt awarded First Chance and 62 other groups a total of $1.6 million in Missouri's fiscal 2007 budget.
"Our program, which has been successful in Boone County, would be a great tool for agencies to be able to offer in Howard and Cooper counties," said Director Linda Poole.
