Five victims robbed at gunpoint while playing Pokemon Go
COLUMBIA - Columbia Police officers responded to an armed robbery call at 11:04 p.m. Saturday night. The armed robbery took place in the area of Bear Creek Trail and Providence Road North.
An investigation into the incident revealed five male victims between the ages of 18 and 24 were in the area playing Pokemon Go when they saw four to five males standing where the Bear Creek Trail meets North Providence.
The victims cut through the grass near the intersection of Bear Creek Trail and North Providence when the suspects started sprinting toward the victims.
At least two of the suspects showed handguns and demanded property from the victims. One victim was struck by a suspect.
The suspects obtained property from the victims and fled the area on foot.
The victims walked to Eagle Stop at 1704 Providence Road North to contact the police. The victim who was struck by one of the suspects was evaluated by medical personnel.
The Criminal Investigations Division is working to determine if the robbery is related to the robberies reported earlier in the week. Investigations are on-going and no additional information is currently available.
