BOONE COUNTY - For the first time this year on Monday, MoDOT closed two roads in Boone County due to flooding. MoDOT reopened Route E at 5:45 p.m. on Monday and reopened Route ZZ, which was covered by nearly a foot of water at one point, at 9:50 p.m. on Monday.
MoDOT crews spent Monday checking driveway pipes and clearing off drainage grates throughout Columbia. In April, Columbia got eight inches of rain-three and half more inches than average. However, MoDOT Maintenance Supervisor Jim Williams said road closings can't be predicted solely by rainfall amounts. It also matters how fast the rain falls.
Williams said with more rain in the forecast this week, more road closings could be coming. You can monitor road conditions throughout the state.
