Former SE Missouri agency director facing theft charges
CAPE GIRARDEAU (AP) — The former director of a southeast Missouri organization that helps victims of sexual violence is facing theft charges for allegedly stealing from the center.
The Southeast Missourian reports that 49-year-old Kimberly Dawn Williams is accused of stealing more than $34,000 from her organization, Beacon Health Center in Cape Girardeau. She does not have a listed attorney.
Police began an investigation in November. Williams is accused of using credit cards and the Beacon Health checking account for personal purchases. Police say more than $12,000 in petty cash was also stolen or misused.
Beacon Health board president Tina Weber says Williams was fired in September. Weber says the financial loss from the crimes has forced the organization to lay off employees.
