Former teacher posing as Grandpa sentenced for "sexual fun" Craigslist ad
JEFFERSON CITY - The U.S. Attorney's office in Jefferson City said a federal judge sentenced a Sedalia man to 10 years in prison Tuesday for an attempt to arrange a meeting with a minor and her mother for sex.
Paul Robert Cannon, 71, previously worked as an industrial arts teacher and member of the board of education for the Gasconade County R-2 School District.
Cannon pleaded guilty in March to attempting to induce a minor to engage in illicit sexual activity. Court documents said he posted an advertisement to the website, Craigslist, saying he was a "Grandpa looking for a couple that would like to include their kids in sexual fun."
A detective with the Boone County Sheriff's Department responded to the ad pretending to be a single mother. He arranged a place to meet, where Cannon was then arrested.
U. S. District Judge Brian Wimes sentenced Cannon to 10 years in a federal prison without parole, and he required Cannon to spend the rest of his life on supervised release after his sentence.
