Foundation to build special home for injured St. Louis officer
BALLWIN (AP) — A nonprofit organization founded by actor Gary Sinise plans to build a specially adapted "smart home" for a suburban St. Louis police officer who was paralyzed after being shot during a traffic stop.
Ballwin officer Michael Flamion is undergoing rehabilitation at a hospital in Colorado that specializes in spinal cord and traumatic brain injuries. Details of the new home for Flamion were outlined Thursday.
The Gary Sinise Foundation has already purchased a property in Ballwin and is seeking donations from the public to help build the home.
Flamion and his wife released a video message thanking the public for its support.
Flamion was injured in July. A suspect is jailed.
Ballwin police chief Kevin Scott says Flamion is expected to return home in about a month.
