MSU dropped women's tennis, men's tennis, men's indoor and outdoor track, and cross country last December to reduce the number of sports to 16, the minimum required for Division I membership. The women claim the university violated Title 9 when it eliminated their program. Title 9 bars sex discrimination against students and employees at educational institutions. The suit wants MSU to reinstate the team, which would let the coach recruit players and schedule matches for next season.
