Four tigers named to preseason All-SEC teams
HOOVER, Ala. - Members of the media picked four players from the Mizzou football program to represent the preseason All-SEC teams Thursday.
Senior defensive end Markus Golden was voted to the second team as he will be expected to bring leadership to Gary Pinkel's defense this fall. Golden put up impressive numbers last season while only playing 40 percent of the total snaps, racking up 13 tackles-for-loss, 6.5 sacks and eight QB pressures.
Golden was also named to the watch list for the Bronco Nagurski Trophy, which goes to the nation's top defensive player each year.
The media also picked junior center Evan Boehm, junior placekicker Andrew Baggett and senior tailback Marcus Murphy to represent the third team. Boehm started all 14 games last season and helped lead the way for a successful running attack that averaged 237.9 yards per game.
Boehm was also named to the Outland Trophy Watch List, which goes to the nation's top interior linemen on either side of the ball and the Rimington Award Watch List, which is given to the nation's top center.
Baggett led Mizzou with 120 points in the 2013-14 campaign, which is the fourth-highest single-season total in program history. Baggett also converted 18 of 25 field goal attempts and 66 of 69 PATs.
Murphy was picked as a return specialist. Murphy has scored 17 touchdowns during his career at Mizzou and his 3,191 all-purpose yards rank eighth in school history.
The Tigers kick off the 2014 season against the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State University Saturday, Aug. 30 at 2:30 p.m. The game will be televised nationally on ESPNU.
