Fourth Inmate in a Year Dies at JCCC
JEFFERSON CITY - A man was found dead at the Jefferson City Correctional Center Tuesday. His death is the fourth in less than a year that has occurred at JCCC.
Missouri Department of Corrections Communications Director David Owen said 47-year-old Jerome Killion, of St. Louis, was pronounced dead at a hospital at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Killion was serving an eight-year sentence for first degree property damage and second degree burglary.
The Missouri Department of Corrections said it does not suspect foul play, but an autopsy will performed to determine the cause of death.
67-year-old Jose Benitez was found dead in his cell at JCCC on July 16, 2013. Further investigations found that Benitez's cellmate, 24-year-old Terry Volar, had assaulted him.
The second death in less than a year occurred Feb. 16, 2014. The Cole County sheriff's office said his cellmate, 23-year-old Ryan Vaught killed 65-year-old Daniel Skipper.
Earlier this month, a JCCC inmate died of apparent natural causes.
On April 7, 63-year-old Charles Hardy was found dead at JCCC.
