Fresh calendars bring fresh start
COLUMBIA -"New year, new me" is a phrase adopted by many as the date turns to January 1st.
People around the world declare their resolutions for the upcoming year, ranging from getting in shape to quitting bad habits.
For some, a fresh calendar means new experiences, opportunities and events in their lives.
Columbia residents Daniel Mattson and Callie Thompson didn't make any resolutions this year, but they are expecting their lives to alter greatly in the near future.
"We got engaged last night, so hopefully a wedding in 2016!" Mattson said.
Mattson proposed to Thompson after he arrived home from work New Years Eve.
Thompson said she was surprised by the sweet proposal and the both of them are delighted by the engagement.
For others, 2016 may not bring any significant shifts, but instead is a year to work toward more in the future.
"One more year of college and then it'll be a big change after that," Columbia resident Aaron McMurry said.
While McMurry doesn't have big plans for 2016, he does have some personal resolutions.
"I'm just looking to spend more time with family, keep working on school and stuff," McMurry said. "Nothing too big, nothing too fancy."
Regardless of resolutions, 2016 will unfold its wonders as the days go by.
