Fulton Dentist Buying Halloween Candy
FULTON - Dentists often cringe when they hear about how much candy kids bring in on Halloween, but not Matt St. George. The dentist takes part in a program called the Halloween Candy Buy Back that pulls in donations from dental practices around the country and then distributes them out. Last year the program got over 60 tons in candy donations nationwide.
"I saw an article about this program in a trade magazine a few months ago and thought it was a really neat idea," St. George said.
Anyone wanting to participate can bring extra Halloween goodies to St. George Family Dentistry on Nichols Street in downtown Fulton and will get $1 for every pound donated. Donations will be accepted from 3 to 5 p.m. the day after Halloween, Monday November 1.
"Kids don't have a lot of money to donate, but giving them the chance to give back, give something of theirs they worked hard for is really exciting for them," dental hygienist Ashley Salmons said.
And besides giving kids the chance to give back, the program has another benefit.
"Maybe I'll see a few less cavities," said St. George, "But probably not too many less."
St. George said he doesn't know what to expect, but hopes he can get a lot of donations because, "At the end of the day it's about the troops."
