Fulton Hopes for Break in Break-Ins
Ruth Palmer is a stylist at Corner Designs in downtown Fulton, the area that's been hit hard by break-ins during the past month.
"Whoever broke into our business knew exactly where they were going and what they were looking for," she said. "They'd been in here before, and that's kind of frightening."
Lt. Rich McKee said Fulton police have a theory about the burglaries.
"We feel the similarities lead us to believe there is one person, or a single group of people who are involved in this."
McKee said most of the burgled businesses were locked, so thieves used a hammer or crowbar to break through a back door.
Police and business owners say burglars don't seem interested in merchandise, because they took only money. For now, businesses are leaving their cash drawers open and locking up their money elsewhere.
There's a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. Call Callaway Country Crimestoppers at 573-592-2474.
