FULTON - A popular playground in Fulton closed on Wednesday for renovation. The Fulton City Council voted 4-3 Tuesday evening to close the Kiddy Corral playground immediately because it had multiple safety violations.
The Missouri Intergovernmental Risk Management Association (MIRMA) cited 42 to 45 playground pieces as safety hazards. Those include some railings and ladders that are too close together causing the possibility of a child getting his/her head stuck.
Cindi Chalfant frequents the park with her grandson and said she is concerned about the equipment.
"I'm just very glad somebody caught it, you know, so that they can do something about it," said Chalfant. "This park is heavily used by kids and families and they picnic, there's kids playing all the time and they need safe equipment."
The playground is expected to get new equipment later this fall.
