Gadhafi Forces Press Two Rebel-Held Cities
AJDABIYA, Libya (AP) - Seventeen people are reported dead as forces loyal to Libya's Moammar Gadhafi continue their push to retake Misrata in the western part of the country. Libyan rebels say government troops who have pushed into the city center pounded them with mortar rounds and rocket-propelled grenades.
NATO's air campaign has reportedly failed to stop the shelling, but a local activist says the rebels were able to take back an area around a central produce market. In eastern Libya, government forces also shelled the eastern edge of Ajdabiya, the front-line rebel town
that's been the scene of fierce fighting in recent weeks. A rebel fighter says no government troops entered the city, but some of their numbers fled north to more securely held rebel territory.
