HAZELWOOD (AP) - Police chiefs in north St. Louis County say gang violence is a growing concern. Hazelwood Police Chief Carl Wolf says police are going after gangs in a big way. He's part of the North County Municipal Police Chiefs Association, a group comprised of nearly 30 chiefs. The issue of gangs will be up for discussion tomorrow. Wolf says a new strategy will include working with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms to trace gun purchases in the region. Last week, Hazelwood West High School called off a homecoming bonfire due to a threat of gang activity. And earlier this year, both McCluer North and Pattonville high schools had shootings on their campuses.
