Garrigus Named HAAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week
KANSAS CITY -- Central Methodist junior Shelby Garrigus was named the Heart of America Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week on Monday. This marks the third straight week an Eagle athlete has won the award, as Kate Fulton and Kelly Klusmeyer each won the award previously.
Garrigus nailed down a pair of top two finishes at the Mule Relays for the Eagles as she ensured her place at the national meet next month. A native of Cleveland, Mo., Garrigus set a school record in the long jump with a national qualifying mark of 5.78m to win the event. She also placed second in the triple jump with a tally of 11.13m.
Garrigus will represent the conference in the running for the weekly NAIA Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week awards, which will be announced no later than Tuesday afternoon.
