COLUMBIA- A fifth former Tiger will join the major league ranks this week as former ace Kyle Gibson was called up to the Minnesota Twins major league roster on Sunday (June 23). Gibson is scheduled to start Saturday's game (June 29) against the Kansas City Royals on the mound.

Gibson is the fifth former Tiger to be on a big league roster this season and the fourth pitcher.Gibson has been rated as the Twins top pitching prospect for the last several seasons and sits at number 68 on Baseball America's top prospect list, but his major league debut was sidelined after he had Tommy John surgery last season. This season, Gibson has made 15 starts for Triple-A Rochester, posting a 3.01 ERA in 92.2 innings. He continues to show the stuff that made him a strikeout machine at Mizzou as he has racked up 79 strikeouts against just 28 walks (nearly a 3-1 ratio) and he is limiting batters to just a .229 average.

Gibson joins Max Scherzer of the Detroit Tigers, Ian Kinsler and Nick Tepesch of the Texas Rangers, and Aaron Crow of the Kansas City Royals. Scherzer is one of the frontrunners for the American League Cy Young Award right now as he is a perfect 11-0 on the year and is the only big league pitcher with 11 wins. He also has a 3.05 ERA and 122 strikeouts in 103.1 innings against just 24 walks. His WHIP is second in the AL at 0.91.

Kinsler and Tepesch continue to be a big part of the Texas Ranger roster that is coming off of a big sweep of the major-league leading St. Louis Cardinals last night. In fact, Tepesch started that game and allowed just four hits and one earned run to the National League's best offense over 5.2 innings. Kinsler had the game-winning hit in the seventh inning, a single to center, as he went 2-for-4 in the game.

Crow continues to be one of the top bullpen arms for the surging Royals, who have won seven of the last 10 games that he has appeared in. He is 3-3 with a save and 12 holds this season while owning a 4.29 ERA in 21.0 innings.
