Gov. Nixon Appoints New First District Commissioner for Linn County
JEFFERSON CITY - Gov. Jay Nixon appointed William J. "Bill" Dorsey as the new First District Commissioner for Linn County Wednesday afternoon.
Dorsey is from Brookfield. The position of First District Commissioner became available for Dorsey after Commissioner Randy Wade resigned.
Dorsey, a Democrat, served on the Brookfield City Council from 1994 to 2006. He was also the council-elected mayor of the city from 1996 to 2002. He has owned H. Tooey Mercantile, the oldest retail business in Brookfield, since 1988.
Dorsey also has served as a board member of the Brookfield Industrial Development Authority and of Pershing Memorial Hospital.
"I am pleased to appoint someone with Bill Dorsey's record of civic service to the County Commission," Gov. Nixon said. "I am confident he will ably serve the people of Linn County in this position."
