Gov. Nixon appoints new member to UM Board of Curators
JEFFERSON CITY - Gov. Jay Nixon appointed Yvonee Sparks of St. Louis Friday to serve on the University of Missouri Board of Curators.
Sparks will fill the vacant first Missouri congressional district seat on the board, and her term will end in 2021.
"Yvonne is a proven leader who has dedicated her career to strengthening and enriching communities," Nixon said. "Each curator serves to help the university meet the highest standards of excellence."
Sparks is the Assistant Vice President and Community Development Officer for the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. She joined the Federal Reserve in 2008. Sparks has also served as the executive director of a social services organization in St. Louis and as Executive Director of Neighborhood Housing Services of St. Louis.
Nixon said Yvonne's career and experience have prepared her well for this position.
The Missouri State Senate has to confirm Spark's appointment before it becomes official.
A spokesperson for the governor could not say whether the events at the University of Missouri this week had anything to do with Nixon's choice.
