Gov. Nixon Named Chair of NGA Homeland Security
JEFFERSON CITY - Gov. Jay Nixon was named chair of the National Governors Association (NGA) Homeland Security and Public Safety Committee.
The Homeland Security and Public Safety Committee has jurisdiction within the NGA over homeland security, the National Guard and homeland defense, criminal justice and public safety and veterans affairs. Members of the committee ensure that the governors' views are represented in the shaping of federal policy.
"I'm honored to head up this vitally important committee," Gov. Nixon said. "Keeping communities safe, and helping them prepare for and respond to natural disasters, has been a key focus of my administration. By working closely with local first responders and our strong network of volunteer and faith-based organizations, we have greatly enhanced our ability to respond effectively to all types of emergencies. I look forward to working with my fellow Governors on ways to continue to strengthen our response capabilities across the nation."
Gov. Nixon will leave office in January 2017.
