Gov. Nixon Warns Higher Education Leaders of Possible Problems for the Upcoming Year.
JEFFERSON CITY - Higher education already took a 5 percent budget cut this year, and it doesn't seem to be getting any better.
Budget Director Linda Lubbering and Nixon addressed higher education leaders Tuesday.
They warned more cuts may be on the way for higher education and tuition hikes are also likely.
Nixon encouraged education leaders to enroll and retain more students.
He asked them to review school curriculum to see if any programs could be cut due to repitition and told them to keep keep working toward developing a sustainable funding model.
Higher education leaders had mixed reactions.
Leaders said they remain optimistic that higher education and the state will be able to figure things out.
