Gov. to Propose 2 Percent Raise for Missouri Workers
JEFFERSON CITY (AP) - Gov. Jay Nixon said he is planning to recommend a 2 percent pay raise for state workers in the budget he proposes next year.
State workers last got a pay raise in 2009, when they received a 3 percent increase for cost-of-living. Nixon proposed a pay increase in 2010, but it was not approved by the Legislature.
Nixon budget director Linda Luebbering said Friday that Nixon wanted to commit $26 million in general revenue to offer the 2 percent pay raise.
This week, Nixon sent legislative leaders a letter telling them that he planned to include the increase in his budget recommendations for the 2013 fiscal year. The governor says he believes it is critical to increase the wages for state workers.
