Governor Nixon not to attend State Fair
JEFFERSON CITY - Governor Nixon will travel to St. Louis County in response to riots in Ferguson and will not attend the Missouri State Fair Thursday.
This means he won't participate in a planned breakfast at 8 a.m.. an energy round table and will also miss the awards ceremony for The First Lady's Pie Contest.
Governor Nixon also released a statement Thursday on the events in Ferguson.
"The worsening situation in Ferguson is deeply troubling, and does not represent who we are as Missourians or as Americans," the governor's statement read. "While we all respect the solemn responsibility of our law enforcement officers to protect the public, we must also safeguard the rights of Missourians to peaceably assemble and the rights of the press to report on matters of public concern."
Nixon also asked the St. Louis County community to remain peaceful during the investigation.
