GRO Wants Better Healthcare
"We are trying to tell people if you have good health care, why wouldn't you want other people to have that too," said Robin Acree with Grass Roots Organizing.
The group is hoping the petition will get the attention of state lawmakers.
With Missouri Medicaid scheduled to end in June of 2008, GRO volunteer want legislators to create a health care system that doesn't cut out any Missourians.
"We really want quality adequate health care, and we want the folks that were cut to be restored," said Acree "and we definitely want to create a system of health care in our state that everyone can be covered."
About 20 volunteers canvassed the communities looking for support.
"I have a job. I have insurance," said Brenda Procter Grass Roots Organizing. "I have good benefits, but I do this anyway because I know that hundreds of thousands of people need heartache plans, so I am out here trying to make sure we have heartache benefits for everyone."
GRO will send the petition to the Governor and others at the capitol in hopes they will listen.
Organizers for GRO say they collected more than 230 signatures Sunday.
