Guard Member Honored in small Missouri town
STOVER, Mo. (AP) - Flags and mourners lined the highway going through a small town in central Missouri to honor a National Guard soldier killed in Iraq. Hundreds gathered in Stover Saturday to say goodbye to Staff Sergeant Lee Roy Parish of Lebanon, who was killed by a homemade bomb in Baghdad on October 7. He leaves a wife and five children. Parrish joined the Guard in 1988 and later went into the Army to serve in Bosnia, Qatar, Kuwait, and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He was a member of the Missouri Army National Guard's 110th Engineer Battalion and deployed to Iraq nearly a year ago. The adjutant general of the Missouri National Guard, Major General King Sidwell, presented Parrish's wife and his mother with the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
