Halloween Festivities Kick Off Downtown
COLUMBIA - Halloween events began Friday afternoon with "The Great Pumpkin Hunt" and "Halloweenie" in downtown Columbia.
Kids dressed in Halloween costumes searched for five "Live United" pumpkins scattered throughout downtown to win a prize. The event was put on by the downtown Columbia "District" and Heart of Missouri United Way. Children also went trick-or-treating at local businesses. The festivities will wrap up at 6 p.m. at Orr Street Studios.
For adults, The Root Cellar hosted a fall festival from 4 to 8 p.m. The restaurant served local food and drinks and held a pumpkin carving event.
Many other Halloween events will be hosted by local businesses throughout the weekend. Several bars are hosting costume contests and The Rocky Horror Picture Show will play at The Blue Note Monday night. Tickets can be purchased online.
