Hartzler, Hensley Battle in Revamped Mo. District
COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - Vicky Hartzler rode an anti-incumbent wave into Washington with a decisive 2010 defeat of Ike Skelton. The Republican congresswoman now has to convince 4th District voters she isn't part of the same problems they sent her to fix.
Hartzler faces Cass County prosecutor Teresa Hensley, a Democrat, in the Nov. 6 election. Hensley hopes to follow in the path of Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster, a Cass prosecutor before joining the state Senate.
Hartzler has remained true to her tea party convictions, calling the repeal of President Obama's health care plan her top priority. She also touts her work keeping overzealous federal bureaucrats in check.
Both candidates consider Columbia a key battleground in the redrawn district. The college town was previously part of the state's 9th Congressional District
