Heat Causes Early Dismissal for Columbia Schools
Komu's nivi nehra looks at how some parents were wondering why they were given an added responsibility.
Cars rolled up at gentry elementary school around two to pick up the students waiting outside.
"columbia officials decided late last night to let all schools out early, starting first with those schools that aren't air conditioned."
To parents like sherry mccuistion the early release creates an inconvenience.
"it's not as hot as they expected, i don't think it was really necessary, i did have to take off work today to pick up my kids from school today"(sherry mccuistion parent)
Amidst doubts..columbia public schools says the release was a necessary measure.
"we looked at the temperatures in the buildings that day and make a determination of what can we tolerate the next day".(lynn barnett student support services)
School officials say temperatures inside the schools reached 100 degrees on tuesday.
Kids got out of school at different times throughout the day to accommodate for school bus transportation leaving the coolest schools for last.
But the heat isn't stopping parents from letting their kids play outside.
