Helias Golfer Drives for State Success
McHenry says the most influential person has probably been his dad.
"He started to help me with my swing," he explained. "And he started me off real early, probably like 2 or 3, whenever I could start walking."
After many lessons and countless rounds of golf, McHenry followed his dad's advice all the way to the Class 4 State Championship.
McHenry hopes to follow in the footsteps of another golfer this year. His father, Tom, won state as a senior at Jefferson City in 1969.
"Last year, I really wasn't playing too good at all going into state," McHenry said. "I shot an 83 at districts, and I really just found my swing on six out there and started playing back to how I could. So, I'm playing a little better this year."
McHenry has won two tournaments already this year, and he hopes to keep that momentum going into next Monday's state tournament in Columbia.
