Helias Volleyball Players Raise Funds for a Cause
JEFFERSON CITY- The Helias women's varsity and junior varisty volleyball teams showed their support for breast cancer research at Wednesday's games against St. Francis Borgia. The night marked the end of the teams' third annual breast cancer fundraiser.
The teams invited breast cancer survivor and Helias graduate Verna Luebbert to speak in between games.
"One of these days maybe we can just have a pill to take and it will go away, or maybe it will be an immunization. Get a shot before and we won't even have to worry about getting it. So, that's my dream," said Luebbert.
The women sold 500 "Believe and Battle" t-shirts. Players and supporters wore the shirts in spirit of the event.
All funds raised will be donated to the American Cancer Society's Breast Cancer Awareness Program.
