Hickman High School student taken into custody after bringing gun to school
COLUMBIA - Police took a student into custody after finding a hand gun at Hickman High School Friday.
Another student reported to administrators that the student was in possession of a gun during the 4th block of the school day. The school immediately contacted law enforcement and district safety and security.
After investigation, the gun was found in the student's backpack.
"Please check your child’s backpack each day and make sure they are bringing to school only those items that belong there," Tony Gragnani, principal of Hickman High School, said in an email. "We also ask that you continue to encourage your child to report things that are of concern to a teacher, administrator or trusted adult."
District policies and student privacy law prevent the school from disclosing specific information about the incident and the student.
