High School Students Get Ahead of the Game
"'Join the crew,' is the theme, and we've been selling them like sailors, but we have tons of different hats we're selling based on it," said John Peterson, a Rock Bridge High School senior. "It's supposed to be customized."
Customized hats and ideas are part of Missouri Business Week, a program of the University of Missouri School of Business and the Missouri Association of Realtors.
"They come not only to learn about business but to learn about leadership skills, to learn about ethics, to learn about team building," said Jacki Langworthy, director of the week.
"I've learned as much this week as they have," added Dale McClelland, one of several advisors who took time from his company this week to help students.
They compete all week against other companies, just as in the real business world. Students made a TV commercial, created a company website and learned how to do a business profile.
"This has pretty much sold me on the business school, probably, and wanting to come here," said Peterson.
About 140 students from throughout the state attended the 21st annual Missouri Business Week which ends Thursday.
