Highway Accident Sends Driver to Hospital
COLUMBIA - A crash involving a tractor trailer and a vehicle caused fuel tanks to rupture and spill approximately 200 gallons of diesel Tuesday on I-70 by the highway 63 connector around noon.
The Columbia Fire Department's public information officer said one driver was taken to University Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Columbia firefighters constructed a filter dam to contain the diesel fuel that may have spilled into a drainage ditch.
Ten units, including three fire engines, a hazardous materials unit, a rescue squad and support vehicles, responded to the injury accident and stayed for two hours. The eastbound exit ramp to Highway 63 remained closed for several hours, according to the Columbia Police Department.
Several drivers reported the crash.
