HOLTS SUMMIT - Holts Summit city officials are settled into new offices Tuesday. Some of the renovated office are located in the new city hall building, located next door to the old city hall.
The old city hall, located at 245 S. Summit Drive, is being taken over entirely by the Holts Summit Police Department. The police department has been housed in the basement of the building since the 1990's.
Lieutenant Bryan Reid said the current offices are too cluttered. The expansion allows the department to build new interview rooms and utilize more space.
"We've been kind of stepping on each other for a while down here," Reid said.
Police officers and police department staff are completing many of the renovations themselves. Officers and staff volunteered to help with renovations to cut costs.
Reid said as the community grows, services need to grow, too. His department will have to balance the renovations with day-to-day duties.
"I've found this office runs mostly on emergencies. Whatever is an emergency gets done first. There is always something that needs to get done. We will make it work," Reid said.
Reid does not know when the renovations will be finished, but hopes to have most of it done by the fall.
