Homecoming Weekend Keeps Police Busy
COLUMBIA - Many people got to enjoy the Homecoming game and festivities this weekend, but the police did not. Officers had their hands full with numerous problems and disturbances.
Between 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 22, and noon on Sunday, October 24, Columbia Police officers responded to 52 Disturbance calls, 30 Peace Disturbance calls, eight Shots Fired calls, and 23 traffic accidents.
Officers arrested one individual for a liquor law violation, one individual for public nuisance (urinating in public), four people for driving while intoxicated, one person for peace disturbance, and one person for a loud party.
Two homes were struck by bullets, but no evidence was found near the other areas in which the shots were heard. The other locations include, the area of Rice Road and Ballenger Lane, the 4300 block of Jeana Court, the 2100 block of Speck Court, the 4700 block of Wren Wood Drive, the 3700 block of Clark Lane, and the 700 block of Medavista.
While there remains the possibility that one or more of the shots fired calls may have been fireworks, anyone with any information about any of the incidents is encouraged to call the police department at 874-7652 or Crime Stoppers at 875-tips.
