Homeless Death Still Under Investigation
FULTON - Police released the name Friday of the man whose body was found behind a Fulton gas station on East 10th Street Thursday. They say the man was 44-year-old John Alexander. Lt. Andre Cook said there is no reason to believe that foul play was involved at this time. Two weeks ago, a homeless man in Columbia was found murdered.
"I don't believe the autopsy has been completed at this time," said Cook. "At the onset of the autopsy being finished they will send over a report of probable causes of death."
But some people who have worked in the homeless community believe that foul play isn't the only threat to those who are living on the streets. Linda Clemens has been the director at Wylie House for ten years. She said the decreasing temperatures pose as a bigger threat to the homeless.
"Now that the weather is getting colder, especially on the days it's cold and rainy, we're seeing larger numbers," Clemens said. She pointed out how the colder weather is bringing more homeless people into the shelter. '
Local residents said they have never seen Alexander around the city, but some said they know his daughter.
