Hot Summer Nights Concert Music Festival Begins
COLUMBIA - The Missouri Symphony Society's 41st Summer Concert Series began on Saturday. Monday evening was the first chamber concert series of the festival, featuring a variety of string musicians.
The music festival consists of 11 concerts over the course of four weeks. There are several different types of concerts including pops, classical, chamber, and family "symfunny" concerts.
The first concert, Broadway Rocks, included performances by Broadway vocalists, Christiane Noll, Virginia Woodruff, and Rob Evan, who were accompanied by Missouri Symphony Orchestra. Carole Sue DeLaite, Co-President of Missouri Symphony Society, was very happy with the response on opening night. "After a shortened season due to finances last summer, I am very pleased with the community support this year," DeLaite said.
The series continues through July 9th, with all of the bigger concerts occuring on Saturday and Sunday and the chamber series on Mondays.
Tickets are available at the Missouri Theater box office Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., before any performance, and on Ticketmaster.
