House Approves Extra Budget Money
House Budget Chairman Allen Icet of Wildwood says the bulk of the extra budget will pay for higher fuel costs and additional costs in the Medicaid program. Legislators approve a supplemental budget each year to cover additional expenses not included in the budget passed during the previous session. House Democrats used the debate to question the need for last year's Medicaid cuts, and urged that money in the supplemental budget be used to expand Medicaid programs and benefits. Republicans rejected the Democratic attempts to expand Medicaid because they said it would add a new line item to the supplemental budget.
