House Speaker Hires Ted Wedel As House General Counsel
JEFFERSON CITY - The former chief of staff to the Missouri House Democratic leader has been named general counsel for the Republican-led chamber.
House Speaker Tim Jones said Tuesday he hired Ted Wedel to the nonpartisan position because of his professionalism, legal mind and detailed knowledge of House procedures. Wedel previously was general counsel from 1997 to 2000. He was chief clerk from 2001 to 2003. Republicans have held the House majority since the 2003 election.
Wedel has worked for House Democrats the past several years.
Jones says all House members will benefit from his expertise and wisdom.
The general counsel advises lawmakers on legal matters and assists the chamber's leaders with ensuring daily activities comply with House rules, state laws and the Missouri Constitution.
