COLUMBIA - Interstate 70 at Route 63 in Columbia re-opened to traffic after multiple accidents and stalled vehicles caused traffic to back up on the snow-covered interstate.

Missouri Department of Transportation crews, along with law enforcement and emergency responders, worked since early afternoon to clear stalled vehicles and get traffic moving again. Traffic is still moving slowly and motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible.

"We want to thank motorists for their patience and understanding during this closure," said Central District Engineer David Silvester. "We understand the inconvenience this caused for mid-Missouri travelers."

Many of the state's highways remain covered or partly covered at this time, and travel is not advised unless absolutely necessary. Motorists can get the latest road conditions by visiting MoDOT's Traveler Information Map at http://www.modot.org/ or by calling toll-free 1-888-275-6636.
